Fishing, fellowship, and a love of the outdoors are central to the Big Bass RV Park, which is about more than just recreational vehicles.
Life at the park revolves around a more leisurely pace, allowing anglers and families to connect with nature and one another by fishing at dawn and sharing tales at dusk. The idea, say the owners, has been to create a setting, not merely provide park facilities.
Co-founders Stephanie Culver and John McGaugh and I had the chance to sit down and talk at their recently opened RV park, which is very attractive. Culver and McGaugh aimed to establish a friendly community area in which people could immediately feel at home. “This isn’t simply about RV hookups or a lake, it’s about community,” said Culver.
East Texas Bass Fishing at the Heart of Big Bass RV Park
Big Bass RV Park is centered on fishing and Lake Fork. The lake is stocked with bass, and its angling is well managed to ensure the conservation of the bass population. This has made Lake Fork popular with both amateur and professional anglers. Visitors to the area have been praising the fishing and accessibility.
The scene, said John McGaugh, one of the business’ other owners, is like seeing old hands alongside novices. That’s something rather special.
This success stems from the fact that the site provides a balance of quality and ease of use. Whether it’s teaching a beginner to cast for the first time or refining the skills of experienced tournament competitors, the lake offers its waters to anglers of all skill levels.
Building a Fishing Destination with Long-Term Vision
It was a lot of hard work that turned Big Bass RV Park into the facility it is today. Care has been taken in the construction of the development to ensure that it will endure over the long term and remain in good condition. All aspects of its development—from the storage facilities to the RV spaces—have been planned with a sense of permanence.
Culver said, “We are not rushing the process. The goal is to create a resort that families will return to every year.”
That philosophy has also contributed to the area’s development into a prime destination, rather than a mere rest stop. This is particularly true for tourists who are looking for places to have a good time and meet people.
Jimmy Houston and His Influence on the Fishing World
Legendary angler Jimmy Houston is one of the Big Bass RV Park owners. Houston is a well-known figure in professional fishing. With years of tournament success and national attention, Houston assisted in bringing competitive fishing into the general public’s view through television. And he has helped competitive bass fishing become a well-known sport through his individual achievements in the sport.

With numerous years of success in bass fishing tournaments and TV exposure, Houston is credited with bringing competitive bass fishing to the masses. A competitive bass angler with decades of national success, he helped bring competitive bass fishing into the general public’s eye.
The personality of Jimmy Houston that sets him apart is his laid-back approach to life. He has a deep respect for nature and isn’t afraid to express his strong Christian faith. These values are in harmony with the mission statement of Big Bass RV Park. The true spirit of competitive fishing is captured by Jimmy Houston, as McGaugh sees things. “He’s a competitive person, but he also has a love for the outdoors and doing things properly.”
Houston’s involvement lends credibility and serves as an inspiration, particularly to fishermen who as youngsters watched him and modelled their behavior on his.
A Family-Friendly RV Park Focused on Fellowship
It’s the sense of community which keeps people returning to fishing, not just the lure of the sport itself. Family-oriented Big Bass RV Park is a place where you can join together, unwind, and socialize.
McGaugh states that some of the greatest experiences in the area do not involve fishing rods and lines. Quiet evenings spent with friends and family are what the residents appreciate. Conversations at night are something they enjoy. They also like to hear the kids laughing. Additionally, friendships are formed when people are relaxed enough to have a chat.
Faith, Stewardship, and a Purpose-Driven RV Park
Big Bass RV Park’s residents have a strong faith in the operation of the park and show their gratitude through their active involvement in the community. They have a strong sense of responsibility towards the land and their relationships. “It’s been a blessing to be able to accomplish this,” declared Culver. That shows itself in the way they treat people and the way they look after this area.
Its approach to nature influences the park’s atmosphere, allowing visitors to feel valued, to feel welcome, and to unwind.
Big Bass RV Park Continues to Attract Anglers and Families
Big Bass RV Park’s objective is to preserve its unique features for new, as well as repeat visitors. Guests visiting the retreat come to experience a variety of activities, including bass fishing, RV camping, and a fun, family atmosphere. The aim is that these guests will leave with a long-lasting impression.
Culver stated that what they want is for people to feel revitalized once they have left the park. The reason why these fishermen were happy wasn’t just the fact that they had caught a fish or two—it also was because they felt as if they were among friends.
Life’s often frantic pace can be slowed in a natural setting at Big Bass RV Park, a place to enjoy outdoor pursuits or simply spend quality time with those closest to you.
Big Bass RV Park currently offers 80 RV sites and is planning to build cabins for rent, all located on 25 acres near Lake Fork.
