Words have power. “Twinkling.” “Festive.” “Magical.” “Cheer.” “Celebrate.” How about “free” (a personal favorite)?
All of these words were taken from the Facebook page for Magical Mineola, a Wood County-wide event that, in 2025, attracted thousands of people to celebrate Christmas together.
The Event
Magical Mineola, like many other Wood County, Texas Christmas events, ran in early December this year. From December 5 through December 7, Mineola residents—and other area residents—could enjoy tons of different events, and most of them were free.
Take, for instance, this gem: “snow hills.” The concept of a snow hill is something that you’ll find—if you’re lucky—at several local Christmas celebrations. Basically, it’s a giant slide topped by ice that’s been crushed into “flakes” and snow blasted onto the slide in layers. This creates a perfect simulation of a sledding hill. So yeah, you heard that right! Here in Wood County, adults and kids alike can go sledding in our 70-degree Texas Christmas weather!
Magical Mineola also had a “bouncy house” Christmas maze, story time, live reindeer, free hot chocolate, the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who, Letters to Santa, an ornament decorating station, a Community Christmas Tree Lighting, and more!
Of course, we here in town had to pay homage to our origin by offering free Mini Train Rides, too. And that’s just the first day of the three-day festival!
Day two featured the ever-popular “Home for the Holidays” Christmas parade. Everyone loves a good parade, and this Mineola event was no exception. Tons and tons of people showed up for the parade, which lasted about an hour. Some folks even dressed up to enjoy the parade better!
Finally, the third day of the “party” focused on a Christmas Tour of Homes, which was hosted by the Mineola Landmark Commission. A lot of folks may be unfamiliar with the concept of a tour of homes. (“What is it? Do we just walk into someone’s fancy house, or what?”). But it’s really quite simple. First, you purchase a $20 ticket, and then, on December 7, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., for each home that was on the Christmas Tour of Homes list, you basically just walked in and received a tour. Each house was a historical home with a story all its own.
So yes, Magical Mineola featured a lot of events. But we here in Wood County love Christmas!
The Effect
“What an incredible night in Mineola!” wrote the city. “Magical Mineola truly lived up to its name. The evening felt straight out of a Hallmark movie, with snow filling the air and joyful holiday spirit all around.”
Attendees agreed. “It was so fun!! Thank you to the City of Mineola Texas for putting it on each year,” said Deborah Mushock.
“This was so much fun! The snow hill was awesome! Thank you, Mineola for everything!” said Diane Schrage.
“We had a great time helping out and seeing friends,” wrote Justin Coleman. “I’m ready for next year.”
“Great job to everyone involved,” wrote Kyle McCoy, Mineola’s Public Works Director. “It was enjoyable watching the smiles on all who attended. It is awesome that the City of Mineola can have this event at no charge. Thanks to the sponsors and hardworking staff!”
One of the best things about Magical Mineola, said organizers, is that it was completely free for everyone to attend. How? Through Magical Mineola’s generous sponsors, such as Broadstreet Bank, City National Bank, and Wood County.
Next Year
All things considered, it seems fair to say that Magical Mineola was definitely a hit! In fact, Mineola.com summarized this year’s event pretty well: “Magical Mineola is more than an event—it’s a tradition that brings together neighbors, visitors, local businesses, and families to celebrate what makes our town special,” they wrote. “From twinkling lights to festive music, from joyful laughter to timeless memories, you’ll feel the spirit of the season everywhere you go.”
If you attended Magical Mineola in 2025, great! But if you didn’t get a chance to attend, don’t worry about it. It’ll probably be there again next year!
